Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
"Wringer" is a powerful story about a boy learning how to stand up for what he believes in, all while experiencing challenges along the way. This is the story of a 9-year-old boy growing up in a city that has a disturbing rite of passage for boys after they turn 10. As a read-aloud, the book helps facilitate dialogue about peer pressure, gender roles, kindness, and being a sensitive boy, among other themes.

In this class, the experienced facilitator will read the story aloud and pause at significant junctures to engage the students in reflective conversation. The students are encouraged to find a comfy place at home to engage in this class, with pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, and anything else that provides them a sense of comfort and warmth.
