US Grade 5
Intermediate Level
As a person who struggled with math as a young student, I can empathize with and relate to students as they try to learn new and difficult concepts. I display patience with the learners, give them time to respond, and offer encouragement for their efforts. In this ongoing class, students will meet twice a week to review and practice basic math foundational skills. Some topics covered include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percent, integers, ratios and proportions, and number theory. During each session, the topic will be re-introduced to the learners and practice problems will be completed with the students. After each class, practice exercises completed in class will be posted in the Outschool classroom. Learners will also receive a practice worksheet. Learners should complete the practice exercises from each worksheet. A worksheet answer key will also be provided. This is a great way for learners and parents to check for understanding. Students should be familiar with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. Students may join the class any week. (See class syllabus for weekly topics.) This class meets twice a week for 5 weeks. (Each summer session is identical.) Come prepared to listen and learn. I monitor learners' understanding (usually through facial expressions). Open cameras also allow learners to interact and experience a class environment.
