Class Experience

In this class students will need to write their own poems and short stories. If students need help with spelling, they can ask me or a parent that is sitting close by, but I always just encourage my students to try their best when it comes to spelling out the words they want to include.
In this summer camp students will have fun incorporating writing and art in these fun projects! Students will learn about creative writing: short stories and 3 different styles of poetry. Students will then add art to their writing project to help show the story and theme of what the student wrote. After students spend time working on their writing project and adding their art to it, students will have the opportunity to share what they wrote with the class (or summarize what they wrote) and will then provide a description of what design and decoration they added to their writing project and why they chose that.
This class will be a combination of me providing a detailed description on how each writing exercise is completed and what exactly the style of writing consists of, I will provide a description of what the theme of the writing project should focus on, and then students will spend time writing. If students need help with spelling, I can write the poems on the board and can also help students come up with ideas for their poems as we will work through each line as a class. For the short stories, I will not be writing the short stories on the board but I encourage all students to ask questions about ideas and spelling.
After students finish writing, they can provide a summary of what they wrote and we will have a class discussion about how we can use art to add to the writing. After students add their artwork, they will then share with the class how they designed/decorated the writing project. Each class will end with a reflection on what the students learned and/or what their favorite part of the class meeting was. Two of the class meeting will focus on writing one short story and three of the class meetings will focus on writing poetry.

Students will learn how to put together a poem and consider elements such as the use of counting flow, rhymes, structure, organization, and word choice. Students will learn how to put short stories together such as character development, sentence/word structure, and how to put together a creative storyline.

Class Schedule:
-Monday: Acrostic: Class will start with an introduction about the poem styles we will learn today. I will introduce how the poem style is completed and what the students should do for their poems. Students will create their own poem and add a design/illustration to show the story. If students do not finish their poems during class, they should finish after class and send to me through the learner conversation tab and/or share with the class during our next class meeting.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! I offer a variety of classes in dance for all levels and ages.
I have been dancing since I was 2.5 years old and have trained in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and lyrical/contemporary. I have had the opportunity to perform in roles such as the Sugarplum Fairy and Dew Drop in the Nutcracker, Wendy and Smee in Peter Pan, and an Evil Stepsister in Cinderella.
I have been teaching ballet/pointe since 2018 and have had the opportunity to choreograph for several performances such as the Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, and Peter Pan. Prior to this I worked as a student teacher from 2012-2016 and a substitute dance teacher from 2016-2018. From 2018-2020 I acted as the Artistic Director and Executive Director for my college Ballet Company where I choreographed ballet/contemporary pieces, taught classes and scheduled/organized performances.
Dance is an excellent way to express yourself and learning new skills is one of the most exciting parts! In my classes I provide my students with combinations that challenge them, help them to improve, and also help them to build confidence and enjoy the process of learning to dance. My classes will focus on technique, learning new skills, learning choreography, and understanding dance terminology.
