For 30 minutes each day over 5 straight days, experience a free-chat style class with an experienced educator and other elementary school-aged students to help build friend skills.
Class experience
The purpose of this five-day, one-week class is to provide elementary school students the opportunity to build their friend skills with the same group over the course of a week. Meeting daily, each session is intended to build on the previous sessions, although the focus is on doing what helps the students feel good about themselves and experience positive connections with others. Students will learn about and expand some basic verbal social skills (using supportive comments, asking questions) and some basic nonverbal social skills (making eye contact, nodding).
I've been a certified teacher for over 30 years (my Washington State teaching certificate includes endorsements for special education from pre-school through high school) and in that time have taught children from elementary school through high school. I've taught self-contained 5th & 6th-grade classes and was the founder of a progressive middle & high school, a place where I taught for nearly 25 years. I have decades of experience helping students build social and emotional skills in school settings and consider it to be one of my strongest gifts.
