Summer Camp: Fun Scratch Coding Projects for Kids (Level 1)
Class Experience
Kickstart young learners’ passion for programming with this project-based Scratch course! Design games and solve unique problems using Scratch, a block-based coding environment created by MIT. Students will create games that they can play and share with friends and family. All lessons are project-based, with 8 fun guided projects that allow students to practice new programming concepts. All students will be asked to apply what they’ve learned to create a final project of their own design...

Week 1Lesson 1Rock BandStudents will learn how to program a rock band that can play multiple musical instruments depending on either a keyboard press or if a sprite is clicked.Lesson 2ChatbotStudents will learn how to program a talking character, called a chat robot or chatbot, to give different responses depending on what they say.Lesson 3Boat RaceStudents will learn how to create their own maze game where they have to navigate a boat through an obstacle course. This project can be modified to add extra difficulty and obstacles.Lesson 4Boat RaceStudents will learn to create a game in which they control a character with the keyboard and must get to the end of a level while dodging balls that are moving towards the character.Lesson 5Monster HunterStudents learn to create a game in which they must quickly click on different monsters that appear on screen in order to capture them and score points.Week 2Lesson 6Snowball FightStudents will learn to create a game in which they throw snowballs at targets to score points.Lesson 7Space InvadersStudents will learn to create a game in which you have to save the Earth from space aliens.Lesson 8Ping Pong DefenseStudents will learn to create a game in which you have to defend a goal from a ball that bounces around the screen.Lesson 9Review and Final Project WorkshopStudents play live competitive review games to reinforce all concepts taught. Class time is dedicated to helping students while they work on final projects and answering any questions they have.Lesson 10Final Project PresentationsStudents demonstrate what they’ve learned by sharing their creation with the class. They can get feedback from peers and the instructor, and get suggestions on how to make the project even better.
- In this online live course, students will learn how to create Scratch programs, make games and solve programming problems, build a complete understanding of Scratch 3.0, understand all the fundamental programming principles, understand complex programming topics, and use Scratch to develop games!
