Summer Camp for Reading and Writing Music - Part 1
What's included
5 live meetings
5 in-class hoursClass Experience
A perfect beginning music class for young learners who want to be a step ahead of their peers. This class is designed to be a bridge for beginning and budding musicians interested in piano, recorder, voice, or band/orchestra instruments. Students will learn about note rhythms, note names on treble and bass clef, where notes are on a piano, time signatures and/or more. Each class will include workbook activities, flash cards, games, and piano demonstrations. We will include a fun Disney or similar sing-along at the end of every lesson as a reward for a job well done! No prior music experience is needed. ***Note - Younger students often require help from a grown-up during the course of this class. Feel free to help your little one as needed, but, remember, Outschool rules require you to remain off camera. Thanks! *** Sample class: 5 minutes to chat, say hi, icebreakers, etc. 5-10 minute review of our last lesson (first lesson will be a review of the materials) 5-20 minutes working in our sticker workbook 5-15 minutes of reinforced activities (i.e. flashcards, worksheets, coloring sheets, games, videos) 3-5 minute sing-along (time permitting) 5-10 minutes of wrap-up/review/questions/chat time (I always notice that kids that age want to share, mostly unrelated things, and I allow time in the beginning and end for a little of that) Da'y 1 - Introduction to Rhythms (whole, half, and quarter notes) - More Rhythms and activities/instrument families/listening exercise (add the dotted half note) - through page 11 Day 2 - Music Math with Whole, Half, Dotted-Half, and Quarter Notes, composer spotlight Parts of the Music Staff and Notes on the Treble Clef Staff, (through page 23) Day 3 - The Keyboard - How to find Notes on a Piano Keyboard (no piano or keyboard required) Time Signatures through page 32 Day 4 - Bass Clef (start with page 36) Review and Finish Missed Pages Day 5 - Careers in Music and Review - Review and Test (no stress test - we do it together) I am a professional composer, but I get so much joy out of teaching younger students in the infancy of their musical journeys and can't wait to see your kiddos in class!! :)
Learning Goals
Students will have a basic understanding of music notes on the bass and treble staff AND rhythms. There will also be an emphasis on instrument families and what they sound like.
