In this multi-day summer camp learners will be introduced to new vocabulary words, sentences related to key words that they will be able to practice through various games/songs (please see below). ** ESL SUMMER CAMP 1 for Intermediate Learners is a prerequisite** ---This will be a unique experience for learners to connect, share their interests and learn how to communicate in English--- [Focus is on speaking/production/learner output.] [The goal is to help learners gain confidence and speak independently by the end of class.] Intermediate/advanced levels are constructed like this : - Introducing learners to new content - Words to know - Reading - Production/games - Review *This will depend on what is taught, but the focus will be mainly on: - Warm-up questions - Key words - Readings/storylines - Dialogues/discussions - Pronunciation practice - Speaking - Grammar and sentence structure Some of the topics we will cover in the intermediate/advanced classes: Week 1 (Week of July 18) - Months and Seasons - Days of the Week - Phobias - Camping - Functional Language: Asking for Directions, Going to a Movie - School Uniforms - Fables (The Lion and the Mouse, The Farmer and the Eagle) - Fables (The Little Red Riding Hood) Week 2 (Week of July 25) - Functional Language: Ordering at a Restaurant ,Ordering Pizza, At the Restaurant - Environment (Ocean Garbage) - Gift Giving - Second Hand vs. New - Functional Language: Falling in Love - Holidays and Events (Halloween) Homework: Digital or printable assignments will be given to students after each class. Teaching technique: - Presentation (language is presented to learners) - Practice (the aim of this stage is accuracy/error correction) - Production (using the language as fluently and naturally as possible) ✓TPR (Total Physical Response) used throughout the lessons, such as gestures and body language, simple and clear instructions as well as level-appropriate language to keep the learners engaged and focused. ✓ Error Correction and adjustment based on learners' understanding and abilities. ✓ Use of props/flashcards and other teaching aids that enhance the class experience.
Learning Goals
Speaking English accurately and fluently with proper error correction through repetition and games. The goal is to encourage speaking and boost students' confidence so that they can eventually speak independently. TPR, props, error correction are used throughout the lessons.
