What will be taught? *Opinion pieces in which students will introduce a topic or name a book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure. *Informative/explanatory texts in which students name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. *Narratives in which students recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure. In this class students will be exposed to *Opinion pieces, Informational/Explanatory writing and Narrative pieces. What topics will you cover? *We will cover Narrative, Informational, Opinion and How-To Writing. How is your class structured? *We will follow the We, Me, Two/Few, You structure and model for learning. How will you teach? *We will use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish our writing. *We will participate research and writing projects (e.g., explore a number of "how-to" books on a given topic and use them to write a sequence of instructions). *We will also recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a given question. What's your teaching style? *As a current school teacher, I am extremely hands-on. Our children need to be exposed to topics related in and outside of the classroom. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? *We will have class discussions together. Students will be able to talk with the teacher and their classmates as peer socialization aides in child development. Any required experience or knowledge learners need? *Kindergarten Writing/ELA

My name is Mrs. Dickens! Welcome to our online Ohana! Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. I live in North Carolina and have been an educator for ten years. I've taught in public schools, private schools and virtual academies. I possess a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Elementary Education (K-6) with a Concentration in Psychology. I've had the privilege to teach grades Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Second, Fourth and Sixth. As an online ESL teacher, I've taught ages ranging from 3-15 years old. I enjoy working with all ages, however children ages 8 and under really have my heart. I've taught English, English as a Second Language, Math, Social Studies, and Science. I'm extremely passionate about elementary education as it is the foundation of all knowledge. My passion is to help children open their minds to a whole new world to truly begin seeing the world for the first time through new experiences! In my classes, you can be sure there will be lots of smiles, warmth, and encouragement. Children learn best when they are having fun!
