Summer travel plans? Outside at the pool all day and need classes that fit a tight schedule? My tropical island creative writing class is perfect for your learner at any time of year! Come along to a tropical island with me! This is a summer camp creative writing class where students will design and describe their very own tropical island treehouses! We will begin by creating a template and filling in information about our own treehouses. We will choose adjectives, do a mini-bio of the house, and decide what materials we will use to build the house. We will also choose descriptions for animals that reside nearby. Drawing is a wonderful prewriting strategy that I use in my classes to help students to bring the pictures in their minds to life. Each class will include drawing time for students to get their visualizations onto paper and use these drawings to write their descriptions. All drawing is student-led. Writing is teacher-led, allowing spaces for each student to put in their own adjectives and home descriptions. I write on-screen so it is easy for struggling writers to follow along and I make sure each student is ready before moving on to the next step. We work on creating stronger sentences with captivating vocabulary, proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. We also practice using a thesaurus and dictionary in class, as needed. I love the abililty of the self-paced class to include my students that are traveling or in different time zones! I look forward to creating with you in class!
Learning Goals
We work on creating stronger sentences with captivating vocabulary and with proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Creativity in writing is also encouraged!
