In this two-week course, students will be working on writing an original story while developing reading and writing skills.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Writing Process
Students will learn about the steps of the writing process and begin the step of brainstorming.
Lesson 2
Plot Structure
Students will learn about the elements of plot structure such as exposition, climax and resolution
Lesson 3
Character
Students will learn about developing a character and creating a backstory to deepen a story.
Lesson 4
Setting
Students will learn about setting and the importance of adding sensory details to a setting.
Lesson 5
Dialogue
Students will learn both how to write dialogue and how to use dialogue to enrich a story.
 Week 2
Lesson 6
Revising
Students will learn the ARMS method for revising there story to present to the critique group.
Lesson 7
Editing
Students will use various techniques in order to edit their writing to present to critique group.
Lesson 8
Critique Groups
Students will present their writing in a critique group and receive feedback and reciprocate.
Lesson 9
Revising
Students will apply feedback from classmate's and their own writing goals to create a final draft.
Lesson 10
Editing
Students will edit their final draft and create a neat final presentation to turn in for a grade or teacher feedback.
I have a Bachelor's in Creative Writing, a Masters in Elementary Education, certification in English for grades 6-12. I'm also an active writer of children's picture books (in the editing process) and a member of an international society for children's book writers.
