US Grade 6 - 8
In this 4-week, twice a week class, students will learn and practice writing responses to Explanatory texts through lecture, guided discussion, and group and individual practice. This class will provide direct writing instruction in writing responses to explanatory texts. As a class, students will work through the process of brainstorming, organizing, writing, and editing a response essays. As part of this process, students will submit a piece of writing using responsive writing on a text that serves a specific purpose and addresses a particular audience. Week 1 - Lesson 1 - Discovering the Elements of a Multi-Paragraph Response to an Explanatory text - pt 1 Week 1 - Lesson 2 - Discovering the Elements of a Multi-Paragraph Response to an Explanatory text - pt 2 Week 2 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Class Essay - pt. 1 Week 2 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Class Essay - pt. 2 Week 3 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Response Essay with Peers - pt. 1 Week 3 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Response Essay with Peers - pt. 2 Week 4 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Response Essay Independently - pt. 1 Week 4 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Response Essay Independently - pt. 2 The Final Individual Writing will be a final homework assignment due via "Conversation" and will be scored within 48 hours using the scoring Rubric and feedback.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the process for writing a multi-paragraph written response to an explanatory text and will write one independently at the end of class for a writing score and feedback.
