Class Experience

☀️Summer is the perfect time to BRUSH UP on those oral hygiene skills! This 3-day live camp will entertain, educate, and most importantly…motivate! 🦷🪥

As a Dental Hygienist, I love teaching children how to care for their teeth. Research shows that routines and habits formed in childhood can have a big impact on future health behaviors. This camp will give learners the knowledge and skills they need for a lifetime of healthy teeth!

Day 1:
WHY DO TEETH WIGGLE?
Why do teeth fall out? How many teeth will I lose? Will it hurt? Should I wiggle it or leave it alone? How do I know if my tooth is ready to pull out? Why haven’t I lost any teeth yet? What if I accidentally swallow my loose tooth?

I have answered questions like these many times. This class explains why teeth fall out in a way that is fun and easy to understand. After class, learners will feel confident and know what to expect throughout the exciting years of wiggly teeth!

Day 1 Agenda:
Welcome: Get To Know You Game

Lesson: Interactive presentation about losing teeth

Game: Guess that Animal Tooth

Activity: Show or Tell (Each learner can show or tell something to the class).
Examples: SHOW- a wiggly tooth, a spot where they lost a tooth, a new adult tooth growing in. TELL- how many teeth they have lost, a story about how they lost a tooth, how you are feeling about losing your first tooth…etc.

Review: Trivia with Chompy the cranky crocodile (Be careful, he bites!)

Handout: After class, I will send each learner a printable tooth loss chart personalized with their name. I created this chart for my students as a fun way to track their lost teeth. I will also send an optional review worksheet to practice what we learned in class.

Day 2:
CAVITY-FREE KIDS
Most kids know that taking care of their teeth is important, but many do not understand WHY it is important. This class highlights the importance of good oral hygiene, now and in the future. We will also discuss the effect that different foods can have on our teeth. After class, learners will understand how cavities happen, why it is so important to take good care of our teeth, and what can happen if we don’t.

Day 2 Agenda:
Welcome Back: Get To Know You Game

Lesson: Interactive presentation about cavities and cavity prevention

Game: Would You Rather- Tooth Edition

Activity: Snack Time!
We will eat a small snack and then look at our teeth in a mirror. (See Learner Supply List)

Review: “Tooth or a Lie?”
Answer a question correctly to learn a weird (but true) fact about teeth!

Handout: After class, I will send each learner a printable home care tracker personalized with their name. I created this chart for my students to encourage good oral hygiene habits. I will also send an optional review worksheet to practice what we learned in class.

Day 3:
BRUSHING BOOT CAMP
Attention! It’s time for basic training. In this class, recruits will learn exactly HOW to take care of their teeth. This lesson will include demonstrations of the best oral hygiene techniques in brushing and flossing. After class, learners will know how to effectively care for their teeth at home. Your child is now a super-brusher and a cavity-crusher!

Day 3 Agenda:
Welcome Back: Get To Know You Game

Lesson: Interactive presentation highlighting the most effective techniques for brushing and flossing.

Game: Simon Says “Let’s practice our brushing technique together!”

Activity: ”Pick a Tooth” Review and Goodbye

Handout: After class, I will send each learner a course completion certificate personalized with their name. I will also send a printable review game for learners to "be the teacher" and teach their families what they learned.
