What's included
16 live meetings
12 in-class hoursMastery Evaluation
1-2 hours per week. Each lesson includes guided practice problems, with most weeks allowing us to complete them all in class. Any unfinished problems can be completed independently, with step-by-step worked solutions provided for support. For extra, optional practice, students can also play Blooket games tailored to the lesson’s topics—making review both engaging and effective!Assessment
Students will complete a pre-test before the first class to assess their starting skills and a post-test after 8 weeks to measure their progress and learning growth.Class Experience
This class is designed to give students the strong mathematical foundation they need to succeed in Algebra 1 and beyond. Many students struggle with Algebra not because the material is too difficult, but because they miss key Pre-Algebra concepts that later become the building blocks for new concepts. This course ensures that students conquer these fundamental skills now, so they can approach more advanced math with confidence. Students will develop a deep understanding of number relationships, fractions, square roots, order of operations, evaluating expressions, solving equations, and proportions. They will also build skills in math vocabulary, writing equations from word problems, solving with formulas, using the coordinate plane, working with tables, and constructing equations of lines. These topics are critical for Algebra 1 and are often rushed through in school, leaving students feeling lost when they need to apply them later. Each lesson follows a structured yet engaging approach. Students will begin with a clear explanation of the day's concept, followed by guided practice problems where we work through examples together step by step. Students will test their knowledge and speed utilizing Blooket. Each topic will have a corresponding Blooket, students do not need a Blooket account to participate in class hosted games. To access the Blooket extra practice outside of class, students will need an account. Each optional extra practice will be provided with the topic's lesson guided notes and examples at the beginning of the week. To track progress, students will take a **pre-test before the first class** to assess their current skills and a **post-test at the end of the 8 weeks** to measure their growth. The pre-test will be posted in the classroom along with the weekly guided notes and practice. My teaching style is encouraging and interactive, breaking down concepts into simple, easy-to-follow steps so that students truly understand rather than memorize. The goal is for students to leave this course better prepared, more confident for Algebra — because they will have the strong foundation they need to succeed!
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m a math instructor with a degree in Applied Mathematics and extensive experience teaching students of all ages, from elementary school through high school, in subjects including pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and beyond. Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of students, and I’ve noticed a common pattern: many students struggle in advanced courses because they lack a solid grasp of core foundational skills. Concepts like fractions, proportions, order of operations, and solving equations can quickly become obstacles, holding students back from excelling in subjects like Algebra, Geometry, and beyond.
Having tutored many students in Algebra 1, I know exactly where these gaps tend to appear and how they can prevent students from moving forward with confidence. This class is designed to fill in those gaps early, so students can approach their next math courses with a stronger foundation and less frustration. I keep my lessons engaging and accessible by breaking down concepts with clear explanations, guided practice, and interactive review games. My goal is to help students not just learn math, but truly understand it, building both their skills and confidence so they feel more capable and less intimidated by the material.
