1-2 hours per week. Students will be required to complete unfinished class assignments for homework. Multiple stories will be read, outlined, and rewritten with stylistic techniques. The final assignment must be typed double spaced time New Roman #12 font. Amount of time spent writing and rewriting a story will depend on the student. However, I estimate 1-2 hours a week working on a story/report. Assignments are to be emailed to the teacher 1-2 days before class by 5pm CST. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE EVALUATED. **The student must have access to a printer in order to print out various documents sent by the teacher.Assessment
High School students assignments will be randomly chosen and evaluated by the teacher. The IEW composition checklist and/or six trait assessment will be utilized to evaluate the compositions. This class will use the IEW writing program. The IEW program assist students with incorporating stylistic techniques to their writing. In this small group session the student will be presented with writing assignments which will allow them to practice various IEW stylistic techniques. This class will cover unit 1-2 Outlines & Writing from Notes, unit 3 Story Sequence Model for retelling narrative stories, unit 5 Writing from Pictures, and Unit 7 Inventive Writing. This class may be a great fit for students with prior IEW experience or students who may want to enhance their writing skills in a short amount of time. The IEW program may ease the stress of coming up with a topic to write about because students will be provided with a source to rewrite which will allow them to spend time practicing stylist techniques taught. This class will cover: Unit 1 – 2 Note Making and Outline, Writing from Notes • Students will learn how to create a keyword outline (KWO) • Students will learn how to retell the story from the KWO • Students will learn how to write their story from the KWO • Students will learn IEW stylistic techniques Unit 3 Retelling Narratives Stories • Students will identify the important components of a fictional story • Students will place answers from questions in a story sequence outline • Students will rewrite a story from the story sequence chart • Students will apply stylistic techniques learned to assignments Unit 5 Writing from Pictures • Students will learn to ask questions about pictures in order to obtain ideas for writing • Students will learn to write a KWO from pictures • Students will learn to write a 3-paragraph story from the KWO • Students will apply stylistic techniques learned to assignments Unit 7 Inventive Writing • Students will learn the importance of asking questions • Students will learn the parts of the introduction and concluding paragraphs • Students will learn to write a KWO for three body paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion • Students will learn to write a 5-paragraph composition from the KWO Scope and Sequence Week 1: Unit 1-2 Note Making & Outline, Writing from Notes Week 2: U 3 Retelling Narrative Stories Week 3: U 5 Writing from Pictures Week 4: U7 Inventive Writing ***This may be a fast-paced class for struggling writers.*** Note: All final assignments must be typed doubled spaced, Times New Roman #12 font. Assignments must be emailed to the teacher 1-2 days before class. Assignments will have due dates. Late assignments will NOT be evaluated. =====================================
