Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students dive into this delicious book! Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, and recognizing themes in books. For each book, students will be given reading comprehension questions and vocabulary to complete while reading. During each class session *We will review reading comprehension questions, vocabulary, main plot points, characters, and discuss important quotes/themes/concepts from the reading. *Students will also play Blooket based on the assigned chapters. Class 1- *Review vocabulary for ch 1-6 *Review reading comprehension questions for ch 1-6 *Play Blooket based on ch 1-6 Class 2- *Review vocabulary for ch 7-12 *Review reading comprehension questions for ch 7-12 *Play Blooket based on ch 7-12
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions.
Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by completing a graphic organizer and participating in discussions.
Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions.

Students need to be able to read a 4th grade level text independently.
Supply List
A copy of The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. This book can be found at the library, local bookstore or online. A pen/pencil The instructor will be supplying background information videos, reading comprehension questions, and vocabulary graphic organizers.
