Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students dive into this delicious book! Through completing class activities, students will practice reading comprehension skills, identifying plot events, describing characters, determining problems, defining vocabulary words, and recognizing themes in books. Week 1Lesson 1Chapters 1-6Review characters, vocabulary, and plot by discussing reading comprehension questions, vocabulary and playing Blooket.Week 2Lesson 2Chapters 7-12Review characters, vocabulary, and plot by discussing reading comprehension questions, vocabulary and playing Blooket.
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions. Students will gain knowledge of new vocabulary words by completing a graphic organizer and participating in discussions. Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions.
A certified Teacher of English (K-12) and Reading Specialist (P-12) with over ten years of teaching experience with students in grades 6-12.
Homework Offered
Students will read, answer reading comprehension questions and define vocabulary words.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each class students will play Blooket to check reading comprehension. Instructor will reach out if scores are below 70%.Grades Offered

Students need to be able to read a 4th grade level text independently.
