In this 4 day class we will talk briefly about a different artist each day. The artists will be Yayoi Kusama, Vincent Van Gogh, Georgia O'keeffe, and Pablo Picasso. We will discuss a their life and their artwork, and then students will create their own masterpiece using crayon and watercolor. We will talk about color, composition, creativity, and also the proper use of materials and clean up. The students will be able to create their pieces based on the artists' work, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. The class will be step by step allowing time for each learner to create their piece and be proud of what they create. No experience is needed, but some parental help could be needed if the student is younger. Please look at the supplies list for everything needed for this lesson!

Day 1 - Yayoi Kusama
Have you ever seen art with tons of colorful dots? That might be the work of Yayoi Kusama, the "polka dot queen"! She's famous for making regular things like rooms or pumpkins look amazing by covering them in dots of all sizes and colors. Now it's your turn to be a dot artist! Grab some crayons, watercolor and paper and have fun creating one of her masterpieces.

Lesson 2:
Day 2 - Georgia O'keeffe
Georgia O'Keeffe was a superstar artist who loved painting close-up pictures of flowers and landscapes. Instead of showing the whole flower, she'd paint just a petal or two, really big and colorful, so you could see all the cool details. She also loved painting the dry, rocky landscapes of New Mexico in bright colors and bold shapes. Let's create our own O'Keeffe masterpiece!

Have you ever seen a painting with swirling brushstrokes and super bright sunflowers? That could be a work by Vincent van Gogh, a famous artist who loved using bold colors and thick paints. He painted lots of sunflowers, starry nights, and swirling fields of wheat. Vincent made the world look exciting and full of energy with his special style. Let's be like Vincent and create our own masterpiece!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Central Florida
I am excited to join Outschool as an art teacher! I LOVE art!
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in painting. I have been teaching private art lessons for 25 years and have been teaching in the classroom for 19 years. I have taught pre school age through High School AP Drawing and AP 2D Design and everything in between.
I have 3 kids (ages 24, 22 and 13) and live in Orlando, Florida where I enjoy photography and streetpainting (chalk art) in my down time. I am a member of the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association and enjoy doing chalk art for events and non-profits. My daughter and I were actually featured on our local TV station back in April which was a lot of fun!
I love teaching students the art skills to be successful! I love to see students who think they can’t draw or paint find success and love what they created and be proud of it!
I like to engage students at their level and help them feel comfortable being creative, have a great time, learn about art even if they don’t realize they are learning along the way. I love to see the AHA moments they have when they create something they thought might be unachievable.
I think that students thrive when they start where they are and have lots of encouragement along the way! I am excited to be able to bring this to students around the country and the world!
