Class Experience

In this class, students will build a medieval castle. Medieval castles were usually build in sections, over a long period of time, so we will work on different parts every week. Before starting to build, every week we will look at famous castles around the world and learn about different aspects of medieval life. As students design their own unique castles they will become fluent in castle vocabulary like the keep, the guard house, battlements and medieval flags.
Building with sugar cubes is really mesmerizing and also fun. If you have ever played block-building video games you will be ready to get started right away. Another neat thing about sugar cube castles is that you can place a battery-powered candle inside the walls of your castle and it will glow from within and look very magical.
Some students might choose to build with other materials, and that is totally fine. You can use marshmallows, cardboard, toothpicks, Popsicle sticks or any found objects. Everyone will be making a totally unique creation.
Schedule
Week of April 21: Topic/theme 1: Building the guard tower
Week of April 28: Topic/theme 2: Building the gatehouse/ portcullis
Week May 5: Topic/theme 3- Building the castle keep

I am a freelance crafts person who specializes in making soap, making dollhouses and fairy houses. and marbling paper.
I love teaching arts and crafts classes to children. I have projects that are not super difficult to complete, that allow for lots of customization, and that are very adorable.
My children are teenagers and I don't get to host as many kid craft parties as I used to. So I am looking for new students!
