Sudoku Geniuses 9x9 Camp
Class experience
This class is for learners who are already able to complete easy 6x6 puzzles on their own or who are already very familiar with the rules for playing 9x9 Sudoku puzzles. All students in this class should have played at least 6x6 Sudoku puzzles before. Due to the fast pace of the camp, it is not recommended for those who are new to Sudoku or who are not yet comfortable with completing Sudoku puzzles on their own. The class will first focus on teaching learners how to complete 9x9 puzzles then...
- increase confidence in applying logic - increase speed for applying logic - prepare for Sudoku competitions
- stopwatch - blank Sudoku grids (provided by teacher) - pencil - eraser - Sudoku puzzles will be provided by the teacher for individual practice after Day 1
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
PACE This camp will move at a fast pace as any learners who join will be expected to already be comfortable with completing 6x6 Sudoku puzzles on their own. This is not for learners who are still new to Sudoku. STOPWATCH Learners will need to bring a stopwatch to class as they will time themselves while completing puzzles on their own. Please ensure your learner knows how to use their stopwatch of choice. If a phone or other stopwatch are not available to your learner, then they can use the Google stopwatch online (https://tinyurl.com/gstopwatch). Please see the materials section for all materials needed. ZOOM USAGE Learners will be asked to annotate in Zoom and may also need to quickly send messages to the teacher while competing so please review these Zoom features with your learner before the camp starts. Learners may feel most comfortable accessing the Zoom meeting on a device that uses either a mouse or stylus. BEHAVIOUR This class will move at a medium to fast pace and learners will be allowed to annotate in Zoom so they can complete puzzles together. Due to this, any learners who cause a distraction (including unnecessary writing or erasing in Zoom) may be placed in the Zoom waiting room for a minute or two. Expected behaviour will be outlined at the start of each day of camp. COMPETITION One of the goals of this camp is to prepare learners to compete with each other in upcoming Sudoku competitions so there will be some competing here as well. While learners will be encouraged to participate and try their best in each activity, they are free to ask to be excused from any activity with which they are uncomfortable. Each activity is meant to get learners to solve puzzles as fast as they can so if a learner chooses not to participate in a certain activity, then they may not see the best possible results in their puzzle solving speed.
