Class Experience
Through this flexible schedule class, learners will learn the skills needed to be responsible babysitters. They will learn how to care for children of all ages including babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children. For each age group, participants will learn about the developmental characteristics of the age group, how to deal with typical problems, feeding and dressing, and toys and games to keep the children entertained. Learners will understand how to be responsible babysitters including how to care for a variety of age groups. Learners will be able to identify different characteristics of children at various stages of development.
I have been teaching first aid and babysitting courses for more than 20 years.
Each week students will be provided with content to work through and a project based on the learning goals for the week.
Handouts and links to other resources will be provided in the classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Automatic, immediate feedback is provided on the scenario responses submitted by students. Informal written feedback is provided on other student projects.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Nearpod will be used each week for the content presentations. Accounts are not required. Students will be able to read the content, watch the videos, and respond to the questions within Nearpod.
Content is based upon personal experience teaching the Red Cross Babysitting and St. John Ambulance babysitting courses over the past twenty years.
