Students will identify the place value of each digit in a multi-digit number to build and demonstrate understanding of regrouping when subtracting across zeros. Students will cover the topic of subtracting accurately including subtracting and regrouping across zeros. Throughout the class, students will be asked to explain their reasoning behind regrouping in subtraction problems.

The class is structured using a gradual release where the concepts are taught, worked on together, and gradually letting students have more independence with their work. Students will receive instant feedback on their independent work.

In my class, we will utilize the gradual release of responsibility model, structured around the "I do, we do, you do" framework. This approach ensures that students build confidence and competence progressively.

I do: I will begin each lesson by modeling the concept or skill, providing clear explanations and demonstrations. This stage allows students to see the correct process and understand the expectations.

We do: Next, we will move to guided practice where we work on problems together. This collaborative stage allows for interactive learning and immediate feedback, ensuring that students are actively engaged and can ask questions as they arise.

You do: Finally, students will transition to independent practice. During this stage, they will work on tasks individually, applying what they have learned. I will provide feedback and support to help reinforce their understanding and address any misconceptions.

Throughout these stages, there will be various guided practice activities and independent opportunities, each designed to provide continuous feedback and support, ensuring that all students can master the material at their own pace

I have been a certified educator for seven years, specializing in mathematics instruction for both general education and special education students, aged 8 to 14. Throughout my career, I have identified subtraction with regrouping as one of the most common errors across various grade levels. To address this, I have frequently had to reteach and provide targeted remediation to students struggling with this fundamental skill.
