Class Experience

Empathy Elephant, Following Directions Frog, Decision-Making Duck, and Resolution Rabbit and I will demonstrate and lead interactive activities and games to help students understand and develop four primary social skills. Students will get to practice using all four of the skills listed. Students will be given situations and choose the best empathic responses. Students will be given 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step directions for interaction with their stuffy. Age appropriate conflict situations will be presented and students will practice resolution. Finally, students will learn simple decision-making steps, practice making the best choice, and play “would you rather”. Social emotional learning helps children move from lower level thinking to higher level thinking leading to better academic and life outcomes. I have a masters degree in education/school counseling with over 30 years experience. Have your child and his/her favorite stuffy join me as we have fun and learn. This one-time class requires no previous knowledge or experience. I will send an activity page about one of the lessons covered after class.#superstar

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a masters degree in education/school counseling. I have been in education for over 30 years working at all levels. I started in middle school which I loved but then was asked to go to various elementary schools. I was a little skeptical but then found I loved that level also. Finally I was asked to start some programs at the high schools. Would I be able to enjoy and have great rapport with them? Yes, loved that level too, I just love working with kids of all ages! I want students to be successful learners. Research has established that social and emotional (SEL) skills play an important role in having success in school and in life. It has even been shown that students with good SEL skills score better on tests. It is my passion and mission to help students become healthy learners and that will be the goal of the classes I teach.
I like to be outside gardening, hiking, and playing with my grandkids. I look forward to many happy and rewarding experiences with my future students.
