Class Experience

Do you get test anxiety even when you know the material? How do you avoid forgetting everything you learned the moment the test is in front of you? I am one of those students, even to this day, as I reembark on the journey of graduate school. As the daughter of a teacher with compassion and understanding, I learned that nothing was wrong with me, but rather my approach to studying that was doing me a disservice.

Through countless hours of trial and error, research, and collaboration, I uncovered my ideal strategy for studying. Since this discovery, I have been able to help numerous peers, coworkers, and friends navigate similar areas of frustration and it has become a passion of mine to continue sharing this knowledge with others. It is true: With the right method of studying, any student can overcome test anxiety and earn the grade they know they are capable of receiving.

From acronyms for creative minds to color coding for those housing a photographic memory, we will formulate the right kind of study tactics to improve your grades and achieve the confidence necessary to achieve academic assessments.

This class encourages collaboration with other students in similar scenarios to motivate peer support and idea sharing. This is an ongoing class as different subjects and topics might warrant a different approach to studying so this class is made accessible to students on either an as needed or ongoing basis. This list will be updated on an ongoing basis; below are a few examples of topics we will cover during the first few weeks.

Week of February 8th: The Art of Acronym
"Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally," "Never Eat Soggy Waffles," "King Charles Died By Drinking Chunky Milk" - Do any of these sound familiar? If not, they will soon! In this class, we will focus on mastering the art of "acronyms" through their application in various subjects.

Week of February 15th: Colorful Memorization
You might think color and memorizing vocabulary have very little to do with one another, but you might be surprised to know that this can be untrue for those with a photographic memory. In this class, we will learn how color coding certain words and phrases when note-taking and studying can help recall information during a test or exam.

Week of February 22nd: What Does That Have To Do With Me?
Oftentimes, the subject matters students have the most difficulty retaining information in are the classes that seem of little relevance to their life and interests. What does math have to do with basketball? Why do I need to know the periodic table of elements if I want to study culinary? In this class, we will fine tune various subjects the student might be struggling in to determine how we can make it relevant, engaging, and most importantly - memorable.

**Please note, if there is just one student enrolled at the time of class, the 45 minute class time might be reduced. The 45 minute scheduled time is intended to allow all students enrolled to have ample time for questions and specific assistance related to their studies.**

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over a decade of experience both working with and teaching youth. I previously taught English as a Foreign Language for 2 years and am currently TEFL certified to teach students with a proficiency of Level 1 to Level 8. I earned my Bachelor's of Arts with a focus in Humanities from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and am a published author of 2 books along with over 200 articles covering various topics, such as Artificial Intelligence and Personal Development.

My passions are Writing, Teaching, and the English Language. I strive to empower the students I work with by first cultivating a safe and positive learning environment, tailored to fit each student’s needs. As someone that struggled with ADD, social anxiety, and public speaking all through school, I look forward to meeting each student where they currently are and using both my personal and professional experience to maintain a place where they can thrive.

My teaching style is incredibly versatile as no two students are identical when it comes to their most successful method of learning. As a result, much of my teaching involves 'hands-on' or 'do-it-yourself' activities. I believe the more relevant the lesson material is for the student, the more they will gain from the content itself.

I have a 10 year old beagle mix named Roxie. She enjoys long walks in the morning and long naps in the afternoon. When I am not teaching, studying, or walking my pup, you can likely find me exercising, reading or writing.

I hope to see you in class!
