Study Skills With Fun Listening Activities and Brain Breaks for Ages 6-9
What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Each class will begin by asking students about some of the reasons it is hard to: listen to directions, recall the instructions, follow the directions. Classes will not build upon the previous class so students can join or leave at any time. Students will engage in brain break activities that will help them use both the left and right sides of their brain. These brain breaks will help students learn to listen and work at the same time. Students will be given a different activity each class. Students will be required to print the one page handouts sent to them to participate in the listening exercises. The students will be asked to listen carefully to the directions as they are read aloud. Each direction tells students what steps to take on the worksheet. Students will learn to listen, think for themselves to recall what they heard and trust in themselves to carry out the tasks. After each activity, students will be asked specific questions related to the activity. Students will gain confidence and pride in their ability to complete each task. Some of the tasks each week may be more difficult than others, but each task will be a challenge that will help them to improve their ability to listen to and respond to the oral instructions. Week 1--Farm Talk Activity--Farm animals can spell. Week 2--Hooter--Students understand "left" and "right" Week 3--Big Jaws--Listen for certain words in the story. Week 4--Fishing Time--Listen carefully as a story is read. Week 5--Surprise--Follow directions as instructions are read. Week 6--Letter and Number Drawing--Follow oral directions then color and add to activity. Week 7-Happy Birthday--Find out how old Jim is.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to listen to and follow oral directions to complete each activity. Students will gain a sense of trust in themselves, increase their self-esteem and boost their self-confidence and resiliency by completing the tasks even if they make mistakes.
