As students transition to middle and high school, study skills become increasingly important. In this 4 week class, students will learn skills to become more independent, confident, life-long learners. I developed this class as a flex class, because regular check-ins can help build habits. There will be NO live meetings for this class. The material will be posted weekly and you can view it during the week at your convenience. Students will be encouraged to build a community of learning and sharing their ideas on our classroom page. I will also check-in with students individually and be available for assistance. Weekly Topics: Week 1: Knowing Yourself, Goal Setting, and Organization Week 2: Note-taking Strategies Week 3: Studying & Reviewing Strategies Week 4: Test-taking Strategies Weekly Posts and Assignments: MONDAY - New Topic, Goal-setting, and Challenge Day - I will post a short, topical lecture with practical tips and a worksheet to help students apply the weekly topic. I will also post a weekly challenge. Students are encouraged to watch the lecture and post their goals for the week. We will cheer each other on throughout the week as we strive to meet our goals. WEDNESDAY - Encouragement Day - Halfway through the week, I will share encouragement to finish the week strong and check in to make sure everyone is on track to meeting their goals. FRIDAY - Reflection and Springing Forward to the Next Week - At the end of the week, we will share our celebrations and struggles. We will do a weekly review and think forward to how we can prepare for a great next week. Students can send a written or video review of their week to the teacher. The teacher will respond by sending a personalized video response at the end of the week to each student. Learner and Teacher Interactions: The learners and teacher will interact with each other throughout the week. This includes discussions, would you rather questions, surveys (using Google forms), etc. I will personally respond to each learner's weekly review with a video message. I will also be available throughout the class to support learners as they work towards meeting their goals.
