Do you struggle to get your learner to listen to your suggestions about study skills? Is it getting in the way of your relationship and family dynamic? As the mom of two grown children, I have been in your shoes! As a 20-year teaching veteran and private tutor, I have seen firsthand how parents want to help, but it's a struggle. Each week in this ongoing class, learners will learn a new study skill that they can put to use immediately. And, during the school year, I will be inviting students to bring any assignments or questions they have about what they are learning and how it can be applied in the school setting. As an ongoing class, students can enroll and withdraw as they would like or need. Each lesson is independent and will be recycled approximately every 8-10 weeks. Feb 23 Organization and Study Tips March 2 Organization and Study Tips Part 2 March 9 How to Pay Attention in Class March 16 How to manage the may distractions in life. March 23 No Class: spring break March 30 *No Class (Mrs. Smith's son is getting married this weekend!) April 6 Time Management April 13 Test-Taking Tips April 20Note Taking: Word webs April 27 Note Taking Outline Method Note-Taking Cornell Notes May 4 Researching/Essays/Project Planning This class will meet for 30 minutes weekly and is a subscription that you can stop and re-start as needed. The class will be interactive with sharing and questioning encouraged, but not required. I teach in a fun, light-hearted way that helps develop trust and makes learning fun. There will be a warm-up designed to get your learner thinking about their current study skills and goals, followed by examples of each of the study skills listed. Learners will get an opportunity to share what is going on at school with regards to planning and studying.

Hello! My name is Laura Smith and I am passionate about learning! I have over 20 years as a classroom teacher and have been tutoring middle and high school students for over 4 years. I offer a variety of classes to help with study skills, homework, social skills, and even a class on bike safety!
Professional Background:
I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience ranging from elementary to high school. I earned my BSEd degree at the University of Missouri, Columbia. I taught with Columbia Public Schools and Liberty Public Schools since 1992. I currently am tutoring in my home in the evenings and during the day on Outschool.
I will provide a safe learning space where your student will be exposed to skills that will help them become a lifelong learner. I believe that all children learn at different speeds when their brain is ready and receptive to new information. Learning HOW to learn is fundamental to success. It is my goal that students leave a session with me feeling successful and confident!
Most of my classes are related to study skills and how to be the best student you can be. I also have a bike safety class and an ongoing choose your own book club!
Fun fact: My husband and I lived in England for a year in 2004. We enrolled our children in school there where I gained first-hand experience about schooling in another culture. We were able to travel throughout most of Europe while there which provided our family with valuable memories. I currently lead international group tours and travel around the United States in our campervan, Toaster.
