This study skills course will teach students how to study for tests, take notes, and improve their time management and organization. This course is offered during the summer only. For school year classes, see our standard Study Skills Course.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Lesson #1 Learning Styles :
How do you learn best? We’ll read about learning preferences and list the ways we learn best.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Lesson #2 Goals & Time Management & Lesson #3 Organization:
Where does the time go? Students will create daily schedules that will help them reach their short-term and long-term goals. Can you find your homework? Students will review basic organization practices and describe their organization methods.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Lesson #4 Listening Skills & Textbook Reading & Lesson #5 Note-taking:
What does it take to be a good listener? Students will learn how to become active listeners both in and out of class. Then they’ll learn the SQ3R strategy for reading textbooks and submit a sample SQ3R for homework. What do you need to know? Students will practice the Cornell style of note-taking & apply it to lectures and readings.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Lesson #6 Studying and memory:
What have you learned? Students review study strategies. Then they will learn how to improve memory.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Lesson #7 Test Taking & Lesson #8 Essays:
Do you have test anxiety? Students will learn what to do (and what NOT to do) before, during, and after a test. Essays: How do you write an essay? Essays aren’t hard to write, you just need to know how. Students will quickly study the format of a simple essay. Then they will take the end of course test.

Homework Offered
Homework is assigned weekly. The format will vary depending on the week's topic. Students must complete the required weekly homework by the deadline. The teacher will review the work and email all comments and corrections.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will complete periodic quizzes and one final course test. Test taking is an important part of study skills, so the final test is weighted heavily.
Grades Offered
This is a graded class. All students will receive a numeric grade.
This course is completely online. Students do not need to provide any materials.  They do NOT need to be online at any set time.
