Beginner - Intermediate Level
This Study Skills course is designed to empower students with the fundamental skills and strategies necessary for academic excellence as they transition into the new semester. Throughout this intensive program, students will delve into various key areas crucial for academic success, including time management, goal setting, note-taking, test-taking, and writing. By the end of the course, students will emerge with a comprehensive toolkit of study skills and strategies that will not only enhance their academic performance in the upcoming semester, but also lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success. The course is facilitated through engaging lessons, dynamic discussions, and a mix of individual and group activities. Students are expected to be on camera during the lessons to foster a more interactive and engaging learning environment, allowing for better communication, collaboration, and connection among peers and the instructor. Classes with one or two students in attendance may end 5-10 minutes earlier, and no more than 15 minutes earlier.
Learning Goals
Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals for academic achievement, outlining clear objectives for improving test scores, writing skills, and overall academic performance throughout the course.
Develop effective time management strategies to allocate study time efficiently, allowing for adequate preparation for tests and writing assignments while maintaining a healthy balance with other activities.

4 Lessons
over 2 WeeksLesson 1:
Goal Setting
We will explore character strengths and learn how to create a personalized action plan for achieving goals through in-class activities, group and partner work, and self-reflections.
Students will also learn how to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals tailored to their academic aspirations, helping them stay focused, motivated, and accountable throughout the course and beyond.

Lesson 2:
Time Management
Students will learn how to effectively allocate their study time, prioritize tasks, and create schedules that balance academic commitments with extracurricular activities and personal time, ensuring they make the most out of each day.
The class will start with a mindful multitasking exercise after which we will learn how to plan and organize for success using various time management tools and techniques.

Lesson 3:
Note Taking & Test Taking
The note-taking component will provide students with a toolkit of strategies for capturing and organizing key information from lectures, textbooks, and other resources.
Test-taking skills will equip students with techniques for managing exam time, understanding and analyzing different question types, and applying critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.
We will put our skills into practice while watching a TED talk in preparation for a short quiz at the end of the lesson.

Lesson 4:
Writing Skills
The writing segment will guide students through the process of planning, drafting, revising, and editing essays and other written assignments, emphasizing clear communication, coherent structure, and evidence-based argumentation to effectively convey ideas and demonstrate mastery of course content.
We will also practice writing a thesis statement.

Parental Guidance
Google Forms will be used for a quiz. Only students' first names will be collected along with their answers.
Answers will be deleted after the last scheduled class.
