Study skills are important skills to master. Although they seem a relatively easy task, the actual act of studying can be daunting, especially for our learners who have executive functioning concerns or alternative learning abilities. In this 6 week class, we will focus on understanding our personal learning styles, utilizing positive habits, note-taking tips and employing various "hacks" to help us (as well as various tips and tricks shared by the teacher). Each week we will focus on a new study skill area. We will review the skill discussed the week prior and build upon that knowledge the next week. The teacher will discuss some foundational skills and move along to areas such as personal learning styles, notes, study space, utilizing devices, "getting into the zone", and much more! Learner-to-learner interaction is encouraged throughout the class. The teacher will use a mix of teaching styles such as, interactive assignments, activities, games, videos, worksheets, google slides presentations, role play scenarios and lectures. The teacher uses humour and real-life examples while ensuring the classroom is a fun, safe and inviting space for all. The purpose of this class is to empower students to understand their individual styles of learning and to identify studying techniques that appeal to their learning styles, while utilizing everyday "hacks" that can support study skills. Let's study smarter, not harder! The classes are structured as follows: week 1- understanding studying and our current skills week 2- learning styles week 3- note taking, review week 4- organization, time management week 5- "hacks," tips and tricks week 6- my "study zone"
