STUDIO GHIBLI Anime Sculpting of the River Dragon Haku: Polymer Clay Arts
Class experience
Students do not need to know about the character Haku in order to sculpt the dragon, however, it is a specific Anime character from the film Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli. In this class, we will work together to learn the steps needed to create each portion of our River Dragon. Different camera views will be used to show each step of the way. We will condition, cut, roll and form our pieces. Then we will assemble our body parts and get them prepared to be baked after class is over. The...

Polymer Bake Clay (any brand you prefer, for reference I use Sculpey) Basic Sculpting tools, toothpick, dotting tool (for eye sockets) A Baking sheet covered with parchment paper A cutting tool (can be flat spatula, clay knife, anything that you are comfortable with using) A non stick surface to work on (You can cover a piece of cardboard with parchment paper and tape it to the bottom…that works) A small rolling pin or paintbrush handle or anything smooth to roll out small pieces of clay. Variety of colors of polymer clay (white, teal, and small amounts of gold/tan, black, pink, grey) OPTIONAL: Clear Polyurethane or glaze for after baking
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F/135 °C, depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary.
