In this multi-day class, we will work on writing a 5 paragraph essay. The class is limited to 1 student or two siblings so that each learner is able to get individualized attention and benefit from specialized feedback. Class One: In the first class, students will have a brief time to go over where they feel they struggle with writing (getting started, adding details, having it make sense, etc). Next, we will go over a "formula" that can be used to write any simple five paragraph essay....
Students will learn how to create a simple, organized five paragraph essay with Introduction, three Body Paragraphs and a Conclusion.
I have my degree in Secondary Education, English and Special Education and have taught English for nine years and reading for six years. Many of my years of teaching were in inclusive educational settings with students with specific learning disabilities, ADHD and other learning differences. As a mom to two daughters with executive functioning challenges, being able to help students find a system that works for them is so important!
Students will need to find information about their topic after class 1 and will need to finish their essays after class 2 and 3 since we all work at different speeds. Students may contact the teacher in between classes to ask for feedback and with questions.
1. Print out handout from class 2. Pencil or Pen Student may print out handouts for class or use them electronically. Student will need to find information about their essay topic-they can use printed or electronic material.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- Google Docs
Students will have a completed 5 paragraph essay to add to their educational portfolio if they choose.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Please help your child access the Google Doc link I will send after Class 1.
