US Grade 9 - 11
In this class we'll talk about how to write an essay: brainstorming, writing an introduction, planning the essay, writing it, putting together a good conclusion, and proofreading the essay. Proofreading is a key step in writing the essay. Each class we'll work through different essay topics, follow a power point, and discuss different essay topics to write them together.

over 3 WeeksLesson 1:
Class 1: Brainstorming
We’ll take a look at a few essay topics and practice brainstorming to think through ideas. This is a good exercise in thinking creatively.

Lesson 2:
Class 2: Planning The Essay
We’ll review what it means to brainstorm and think of ideas and then plan out what we might write about in a practice essay.

Lesson 3:
Class 3: Writing The Introduction
The introductory paragraph is often the most difficult to write. We’ll take a look at some key strategies for writing a good introduction and practice writing a few introductory paragraphs in class.

Lesson 4:
Class 4: Writing The Body
Writing The Body. In this class we’ll brainstorm, plan, write an introductory paragraph, and write the body of a practice essay. We’ll also talk about specific vocabulary that can help the essay flow well and stay organized.

Supply List
Student should have a pen and paper and be able to use a computer to write essays and send in homework.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
