This structured and supported math class is designed for those children who are struggling. Maybe your child has dyscalculia or a difficult start that has caused frustration. One on one teaching can make a difference! My class will be tailored to your child's needs but also comprehensive and mastery-based. We will use the Zearn program to guide us through our math learning journey. During each class we will do game-like drill activities to improve math fluency. Then we'll do digital activities designed to understand math better. After that, is instruction of a new concept and practice. I like to bring in additional support materials and activities if I see that the student is struggling, such as an interactive hundreds chart, a movable teaching clock or clickable counting money. I will add the student to my Zearn account and give the student/parent the login for the student's account for completing assignments between classes. I will share screen and control during class as we go through the class lesson on my screen. There are a number of physical math aids that the student should have available for lessons and assignments, such as a number line, a hundreds chart and a white board and markers. The accepting atmosphere and multisensory style of my teaching will put your child at ease. I know about math struggles and math anxiety. Together we will learn and succeed.
Learning Goals
Students will be learning the math concepts included in a full grade, alligned to common core standards.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! I'm very thankful to be added to this wonderful group of amazing teachers and super students! I'm a homeschool mom + reading specialist + ESL teacher. We have 8 kids ages 14-29 so homeschooling has been part of my life for a long time. I found out early on that my favorite thing to teach is reading. It's such an important skill! I use the Barton Reading and Spelling System for most of the reading teaching that I do. More recently I have discovered teaching English online. I thoroughly enjoy teaching children in China to speak our beautiful language. I'm so excited to have found a fantastic ESL program called Off2Class that I can use with kids on Outschool.
I have a Bachelor's degree in sociology and education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. I've been teaching in a variety of settings ever since. This includes homeschool (pre-k through 12th grade), children's programs at church, two private Christian schools, private tutoring business and online ESL (VIPKid).
I love seeing kids smile during class and I understand the importance of student engagement and participation in the learning process. I will provide lots of opportunities for your student to interact with me and the learning materials. Let's have a great time improving reading and English skills!
