Homework
1 hour per week. * Handouts should be completed before they move on to the next lesson. * Parents must monitor their children's homework, correct the homework if an answer sheet is provided, help when needed, and make sure it is done and turned in on time for evaluation. This helps me know what concepts to focus more on in the classroom follow-up and review. ***It is the parent's responsibility to make sure their child understands the material or contacts me so I can address it.
Assessment
* It is the parent's responsibility to follow up with any questions and concerns. * An informal assessment will be given as needed when homework is turned in and evaluated. * A more formal assessment is available on request only.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
Meet the Strong Family! Together, they use their superpowers to create clear and vivid images in the reader’s mind. In this 6 session live, interactive class, we explore the powers of the spectacular parts of speech and how they can be arranged to form strong and powerful sentences.

Most children are familiar with simple sentences which contain a noun and a verb. Some are able to understand adjectives that describe the noun. But to create really strong, powerful and detailed sentences, learners need to understand the 8 parts of speech and how they are used to build strong and powerful sentences!

TEACHING STYLE:
In this flexible course that meets by video and in the classroom, not live, learners will engage in an interactive, colorful power point presentation where they will create their own strong sentences by learning about the Strong family and the spectacular parts of speech. Students will use their "superpowers" by answering questions in the video prompts, doing their homework assignments, and sharing their own strong sentences on the classroom page. Activities such as noun picture scavenger hunts, verb video challenges, and adjective artwork will be shared as well as other activities for the other parts of speech.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A flexible schedule BEGINNER foundational* course to writing strong sentences

* For younger students, this might be the first time they are hearing these terms and parts of speech, while for older children, this could be a good foundational review. The pace of the class is on a flexible schedule, but there will be weekly writing assignments, activities to reinforce the lessons, and engagement on the classroom page. Weekly lessons are divided into two parts. Your student can go through the entire lesson in one sitting, but I advise breaking it up to twice a week for concentrated parts of speech practice.

• By knowing and building on the 8 parts of speech, learners will string words into strong and powerful sentences using the strong sentence formulas.
• Through a fun, colorful slide show with super hero images, learners will practice in the parts of speech and start writing detailed, descriptive sentences.
• Through teacher prompting and participation on the classroom page, learners will be introduced to the 8 parts of speech and build on their understanding of sentence structure.
• Learners will write detailed and descriptive sentences that paint a picture in the reader's mind.

**See syllabus for detailed lesson plans.

My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't. I'm excited to bring my program online to an even bigger audience.

What parents are saying:

Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
