Powerful writing starts with arranging the parts of speech to create vivid images in the reader’s mind. By using the strong sentence formula, learners use their superpowers to write detailed and descriptive sentences!

Class experience

US Grade 1 - 3
•  Introduction to the 8 parts of speech with emphasis on nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.
•  Strong sentence structure and various sentence structures as explained above.
•  Students are NOT EXPECTED TO MASTER the follow: direct objects, adverbs, prepositions, but are only to gain a better understanding of where and how they are used in a strong sentence.
•  Clear and cohesive descriptive sentences.
•  This is not necessarily a grammar class, though some comma rules and basic punctuation will be addressed.
* I do my best to engage all learners in the class. The more participation a student has in class, the better he or she will understand the concepts being taught.
My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't. I'm excited to bring my program online to an even bigger audience.

What parents are saying:

Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
Homework Offered
* Homework will be given after every class and will need to be PRINTED OUT, finished before the next class, and uploaded to the teacher messaging section, not the class page. * There will be MORE than enough homework to keep your child practicing all week for a 1 day class. However, in the case that this is a 2 or 3 day a week, they are not expected to complete all the homework. I would like them to practice 3-4 examples from each section to help reinforce what we are learning in class. * Some videos may be required outside of class for lesson reinforcement. * There is no guarantee that I will be able to assess homework that is turned in late. * Parents must monitor their children's homework, correct the homework if an answer sheet is provided, help when needed, and make sure it is done and turned in on time for evaluation. This helps me know what concepts to focus more on in the classroom. * If your child is unprepared for the next class, I may not be able to slow the class down for them to get caught up. ***It is the parent's responsibility to make sure their child understands the material or contacts me so I can address it in class.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
* Assessments will be done in class through class participation and sentence writing. Parents will be notified if a student needs more help in a certain area, but it is up to the parent to work with the child outside of class. * It is the parent's responsibility to follow up with any questions and concerns. * An informal assessment will be given as needed when homework is turned in and evaluated. * A more formal assessment is available on request only.
Grades Offered
 1 file available upon enrollment
* A pdf syllabus will be uploaded in the classroom each day before class for the students to print out and use as a guide. * Learners should also have a pencil and lined paper, and a folder or 3 ring binger to organize their material.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will need to be able to write with a pencil and may need parental help.
***PARENTS PLEASE READ BEFORE TO REGISTRATION***

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS: I will start each class announcing my class expectations which include:
**NO using the chat box for messages not relative to the discussion and questions
**NO drawing and writing on the screen I use for teaching
**NO learning sharing their screen for any reason
**NO disruptive behavior such as flashing lights in the screen and constantly switching their background

While I understand many students are new to online learning, if a student does not respond to correction and continues disruptive behavior, he or she will be asked to leave the class for the day or the rest of the time. Videos may be accessed, however no refund will be issued if learner does not show cooperation in correction and is asked to leave class.

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING these rules are in place due to problems in past classes (with younger students) and are enforced to ensure that ALL students have the best experience possible.

Profile
I love seeing students get excited about writing, even reluctant writers. Ever since I was 8  years old, I've been journaling and writing poetry to express things I couldn't speak out loud or didn't know how to. My thoughts just came out better...
