What's included

6 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. * Homework will be given after every class and will need to be PRINTED OUT, finished before the next class, and uploaded to the teacher messaging section, not the class page. * There will be MORE than enough homework to keep your child practicing all week for a 1 day class. However, in the case that this is a 2 or 3 day a week, they are not expected to complete all the homework. I would like them to practice 3-4 examples from each section to help reinforce what we are learning in class. * Some videos may be required outside of class for lesson reinforcement. * There is no guarantee that I will be able to assess homework that is turned in late. * Parents must monitor their children's homework, correct the homework if an answer sheet is provided, help when needed, and make sure it is done and turned in on time for evaluation. This helps me know what concepts to focus more on in the classroom. * If your child is unprepared for the next class, I may not be able to slow the class down for them to get caught up. ***It is the parent's responsibility to make sure their child understands the material or contacts me so I can address it in class.
Assessment
* Assessments will be done in class through class participation and sentence writing. Parents will be notified if a student needs more help in a certain area, but it is up to the parent to work with the child outside of class. * It is the parent's responsibility to follow up with any questions and concerns. * An informal assessment will be given as needed when homework is turned in and evaluated. * A more formal assessment is available on request only.

Meet the Strong Family! Together, they use their superpowers to create clear and vivid images in the reader’s mind. In this 6 session live, interactive class, we explore the powers of the spectacular parts of speech and how they can be arranged to form strong and powerful sentences.

Most children are familiar with simple sentences which contain a noun and a verb. Some are able to understand adjectives that describe the noun. But to create really strong, powerful and detailed sentences, learners need to understand the 8 parts of speech and how they are used to build strong and powerful sentences!

TEACHING STYLE:
In this beginner course, learners will engage in an interactive, colorful power point presentation and discussion where they will create their own strong sentences by learning about the Strong family and the spectacular parts of speech. Students will be encouraged to use their "super powers" by participating in discussions, answering questions during class time, and sharing their own strong sentences

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A BEGINNER foundational* course to writing strong sentences

* For younger students, this might be the first time they are hearing these terms and parts of speech, while for older children, this could be a good foundational review. The pace of the class is determined by the ability of the class as a whole, so please message me if you have questions or concerns if this is the right level class for your child.

• By knowing and building on the 8 parts of speech, learners will string words into strong and powerful sentences using the strong sentence formulas.
• Through a fun, colorful slide show with super hero images, learners will practice in the parts of speech and start writing detailed, descriptive sentences.
• Through class participation and teacher prompting, learners will be introduced to the 8 parts of speech and build on their understanding of sentence structure.

My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't. I'm excited to bring my program online to an even bigger audience.

What parents are saying:

Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
