Powerful writing starts with arranging the parts of speech to create vivid images in the reader’s mind. In this flexible schedule course, learners use their writing superpowers to write detailed descriptive sentences and stories!

Class experience

US Grade 1 - 4
This class is taught in English.
•  Introduction to the 8 parts of speech with an emphasis on nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions.
•  Strong sentence structure and various sentence structures as explained above.
•  Students are NOT EXPECTED TO MASTER the follow: direct objects, adverbs, prepositions, but are only to gain a better understanding of where and how they are used in a strong sentence.
•  Clear and cohesive descriptive sentences.
•  This is not a grammar class.
* I do my best to engage all learners in the class through the presentation, activities, and classroom page. The more participation a student has on the classroom page, the better he or she will understand the concepts being taught.
My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't. I'm excited to bring my program online to an even bigger audience.

What parents are saying:

Gina is a phenomenal writing teacher! We have loved working with her. We have a range of ages and she is great at adapting to their ages and learning styles. She's very patient and good at helping them focus. My kids have learned so much and been stretched and challenged in the area of writing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to advance in any area of writing! - Bethany mother of K, 1, 3, 4 tutored students.
Homework Offered
* Homework will be given after every Monday and will need to be PRINTED OUT, finished before the next class, and uploaded to the teacher messaging section, not the class page. * There will be MORE than enough homework to keep your child practicing all week. They are not expected to complete all the homework. I would like them to practice 3-4 examples from each section to help reinforce what we are learning in class. * Some videos may be required outside of class for lesson reinforcement. * Students are to participate in all activities and upload their pictures or videos to share with the class for further learning for everyone else by Friday of the week. * There is no guarantee that I will be able to assess homework that is turned in late. * Parents must monitor their children's homework, correct the homework if an answer sheet is provided, help when needed, and make sure it is done and turned in on time for evaluation. This helps me know what concepts to focus more on in the classroom follow-up and review. ***It is the parent's responsibility to make sure their child understands the material or contacts me so I can address it.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
* Assessments will be done through classroom participation, activity sharing, and sentence writing. Parents will be notified if a student needs more help in a certain area, but it is up to the parent to work with the child outside of class. * It is the parent's responsibility to follow up with any questions and concerns. * An informal assessment will be given as needed when homework is turned in and evaluated. * A more formal assessment is available on request only.
Grades Offered
* A pdf syllabus will be uploaded in the classroom each day before class for the students to print out and use as a guide.
* Learners should also have a pencil and lined paper, and a folder or 3 ring binger to organize their material.
* Art supplies: crayons, glue, magazines, paper

Profile
I love seeing students get excited about writing, even reluctant writers. Ever since I was 8  years old, I've been journaling and writing poetry to express things I couldn't speak out loud or didn't know how to. My thoughts just came out better...
