If the eyes are the window to the soul, we need to find a way to express what we see through our eyes. This is where writing comes in. Writing is a form of expression that unlocks ideas, thoughts and emotions. Without the ability to express how we feel, what we see, or what we want and need, we are trapped. This 4 days writing camp will help students create paragraphs that Catch, Keep, and leave a reader wanting More. As students learn to create topic sentences, use description in the body of their paragraphs, and uniquely conclude their pieces, they unlock a whole new world of keeping their readers entertained. By asking questions, and engaging students though different activities through breakout rooms and large group discussion, students will harness the power of writing. Each day we will focus on a special component of their writing. The day will begin with an image, song, or general observation they will be asked to put down on paper. By commencing with a writing piece, they have a foundation that will proceed to be strengthened throughout the class period. General Daily Breakdown: 1. Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm an elementary and secondary teacher who also has experience teaching adults who are learning to speak the English language. I teach English, Spanish, and math to elementary students. I also teach US history and English to 6-12 graders.
I received my BA in Secondary English and Spanish (as a minor) and a teaching certificate in K-8th self-contained classroom in Grand Rapids MI. I had my first real teaching experience at an international school in the Dominican Republic.
I believe all students have the potential to acquire knowledge but many struggle to find the key. My calm, loving and peaceful demeanor helps students feel comfortable, accepted, and encouraged. My goals are to empower students as they grow, mature and learn about their strengths and weaknesses by using a variety of differentiated instruction while I teach different academic subjects.
In my free time I love to bike ride with my Border Collie, make jewelry, play the piano and the guitar. I am in the process of learning how to play the Ukulele.
