Stretch and Flexibility for Young Dancers
Class experience
Our class will start off with a quick introduction in order to make new friends and learn a bit about everyone's dance experience and flexibility level. We will then get the ball rolling with a yoga based warm up to get our heart rate up. Once we are a bit warm we will begin our full body stretch and strength exercises that will target specific muscle groups required in many forms of dance. Our main class goal is to improve both our active and passive flexibility in a safe and healthy way. Students will learn exercises that they can take with them to continue their stretch journey and make them better, safer, and stronger dancers down the line.
As a professional dancer and athlete, yoga and stretching play a huge part in my health and well-being. I have taught these topics to both adults and children for many years and feel it would translate perfectly to the Outschool platform. Aside from training extensively in dance, I have spent significant time being trained and acting as a youth educator and have a passion for teaching. This combined with my knowledge of physical therapy will ensure students stay safe while having a great time.
The following materials are HIGHLY recommended but not required: -yoga mat -yoga blocks -yoga strap or resistance bands (a small hand towel is a good replacement) -water bottle -comfortable/stretchy clothes
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parental guidance is always recommended when physical activity is involved, however is not a requirement for this course. Parents, if your student is dealing with any form of an injury, please contact me prior to class or have your student share with me at the start of our class. Make sure your student has plenty of room to move and that they wont injure themselves on anything nearby. Water is highly recommended for physical activity. This class is done best with bare feet and a yoga mat.
