Description
Class Experience
Each student gains skills and understandings in their identified areas of need. Topics may include the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and their relationships with each other, basic facts, times tables, place value, fractions, decimals, integers, word problems and more. The learner is encouraged to work on current homework (from school, or from their homeschooling program) in this class, with teacher support, and to bring questions from past assignments...
The learner increases their understanding of math concepts and their mathematical skill level, particularly in the areas that are the most challenging for the learner. They gain confidence in their own mathematical ability, and experience an increased willingness to try new kinds of math tasks.
Over my thirty-year career as a classroom teacher, I have enjoyed teaching math to students in grades 1 to 6. I have worked as a private math tutor for students in grades 1, 6 and 8. Working 1-on-1 with a student affords the opportunity to learn just how they are approaching each task, to identify any misconceptions or unclear areas, and to build upon the learner's unique strengths. It is absolutely delightful to witness those wonderful "Aha!" moments, and to use the learner's work samples to demonstrate to them their progress over time.
Homework is assigned only if requested by the learner or their grownup.
