Stress Management Techniques for Kids (Ages 8-12)

In this course, students will discuss what situations may cause stress and how to appropriately cope with these situations. Some techniques include visualization, progressive muscle relaxation, and mediation. In this class, each technique is taught explicitly and modeled for the students. Additionally, the students will role-play using the various techniques. Every student leaves the class with a printable workbook and journal to help them track their progress in implementing the techniques taught. I structure this class around the word CALM and ensure that my teaching style mirrors the expectations set forth in the lesson. This class is highly structured and involves lots of props (including puppets), games, a PowerPoint, a few short video clips, and times for students to engage and interact with one another.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge of how to appropriately deal with stress.
Students will add various techniques to their toolbox with ways to cope with stress.
