Description
Class Experience
Each week will be a combination of a pre-recorded video of me introducing the weekly lesson and practice with an accompanying activity for learners to engage in and post to the classroom. Week 1: “Stress is necessary”- what happens in the brain and when can stress be useful? Practice changing our perception of stress itself by noticing and accepting what we feel in our bodies as a helpful ancient instinct. Learner interaction: draw and post how your protective amygdala makes your body feel....
Neuroscience Physician Assistant for 10 years at Johns Hopkins, MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) instructor with UMASS training.
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class is not psychotherapy or medical advice- it is intended only to encourage introspection on the learners part, along with various techniques and practices to generically minimize stress and increase mood. Also, in week 3 I invite learners to hold an ice-cube in their hand for a few minutes- and tell them in my video to get permission from their parent- if there is any medical reason why they would be more sensitive to cold temperatures on the skin of their hand, please tell them not to participate in this activity and let me know, I will be happy to provide an alternative.
