Class
LearningWorks for Kids LIVE
Average rating:4.5Number of reviews:(203)
Students will learn how their executive function skills can be their greatest tool to winning Among Us as a crewmate or the Imposter! Requires access to the Outschool Zoom classroom via computer and a mobile device for gameplay.

Class experience

1. Students will describe the executive function skill in their own words and will provide an example of a time they used the skill, and a situation where the skill needs improvement.
2. Students will reflect on their gameplay the course of the session and discuss how they use the executive function skill to catch the Imposter or avoid being caught.
3. Students will identify 1-2 ways they can use these skills in their real life going forward.

LearningWorks for Kids (LW4K) views gameplay as a foundation for children’s learning. LW4K LIVE classes leverage children's attention, persistence, and love of gaming as tools for developing executive functioning, social-emotional, and academic skills used in and out of game play. Our teachers are expert gamers, trained in psychology and education with the goal of making game-based learning into real world skills. But playing games is not enough! We apply evidenced-based strategic teaching principles and the LW4K model of “Detect, Reflect, and Connect” to make gameplay “Digitally Nutritious” and help students identify, think about, and then apply the skills they are practicing in gameplay to the real world.

While our classes are great fun, there is always a teaching component included. Typically we spend about 10 minutes at the beginning of class, talking, watching video, and strategizing about our targeted skill (e.g. Planning, Time Management, Organization, Flexibility, etc). The remainder of the glass is gameplay where we apply the “Detect, Reflect, and Connect” strategies to promote real world learning. Your kids will have a blast playing video games with our teachers and learn skills that will help them at home, school, and in their daily activities.
Our dedicated, experienced Learning Works for Kids instructors always make sure that every session is just as enjoyable as it is educational. This course will be led by a member of our LearningWorks LIVE team. For more information about our team, please visit the "About Us" page on the LearningWorks for Kids website.

This course is taught by LearningWorks LIVE instructor, Shanna. As an educator and life-long gamer, Shanna wants students to be able to see the connections between strengths in gaming and strengths in the real world. She is a graduate of the University of WI-Milwaukee with a B.A. in Applied Linguistics and an English teaching certification. She has been an educator for 11 years.
