Class Experience

In this one-time class we will focus on segmenting and blending CVC words for reading and writing. We will practice a variety of strategies that early readers and writers will be able to apply as they continue to develop reading and writing skills. 
In today's class I will be using different techniques to engage all learning styles including visual (using pictures and elkonin boxes), auditory (listening to words and stretching the sounds), kinesthetic (incorporating arm movements to physically stretch words), and verbal (using letters and words). 

Our class today will follow this structure: 
Greeting
Warm-up with letter and letter sound practice
Segmenting words with our arms.
Stretching words using Elkonin boxes
Trash or Treasure blending game using nonsense and real words
Guess My Word game
Review and Farewell

To make the most of today's class, students should be be able to recognize most letters and letter sounds.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to segment words and blend letter sounds, building a foundation for reading and writing.

Hi! My name is Molly. I am a wife and mother to five (James is 6, Collin is 4, and triplet 2 year olds, Grace, Hazel, and Nellie!). I received my B.A. in Psychology and Public Policy from The College of William and Mary in 2009. I received my M.A.T.- Elementary Education from Liberty University in 2011. I have 5 years of formal classroom experience. I spent 4 years teaching Kindergarten and 1 year teaching 1st grade. I also served my brick-and-mortar school as an International Baccalaureate program coordinator. I have spent the last 6 years as an online ESL teacher to students across the world. 

I LOVED teaching in the kindergarten classroom because it taught me that learning can be magical. I have learned how to channel that momentum to create wonder and engagement in little learners. I like to incorporate a lot of movement and song into my classes and believe in learning with the whole body. I view my role of teacher as the guide and know that students learn best through the hands-on, engaging experiences that I am able to provide for them. I have a passion for teaching early literacy skills and like to incorporate aspects of math, science, art, and other disciplines into my lessons whenever possible. 

My classroom will always be positive, inviting, interactive, and engaging. I am so excited to meet your child. I cannot wait to be a part of your child's educational journey!
