Class Experience

Every week we will have a 50-minute costume party based on different characters (Ms Marvel, the Flash, Owelette, Superman, ) or groups of characters (Batman, Batgirl, Robin) from the canon of global superheroes. Kids come dressed up as a character from the comic book, cartoon, book, podcast, or film we discuss each week. Children will learn and share about the superhero and superpower, the STEM + Reading + Arts = STREAM behind it, as well as have fun dancing, singing, acting, and doing arts and craft projects all based on the character of the week.

Topics Covered:

STEM: Biology and classification of the animal, plant, and insect world, as well as the basic physics, chemistry, and maths behind the superpower we are studying
Reading: Science Vocabulary
Arts in the design of the superhero, as well as creation of your child's own superhero. Superheroes cover Batman, Supergirl, Bumblebee, Ms. Marvel, Spiderman (Pete Parker/Miles Morales), The Incredibles, Teenage Mutant Turtle, Suri, and others!

Class Structure:
•	10 minutes greeting and showing the outfits, their dolls/action figures/pictures, and explaining what they like about the superhero to the others in the class.
•	15 minutes learning about the superhero and their power, the science behind their superpower, and other facts relating to their superhero.
•	15 minutes to dance, listen to music, sing, perform poetry, and draw
•	10 minutes reviewing what we learned and the students explaining what they see in common with themselves and the superhero and then saying goodbye

Guidelines:

1.	I will wait until 15 minutes after the beginning of class if no students attend until then I will cancel the class.
2.	I have a minimum of 5 students per class.
3.	While I assume that children are of the developmental age that matches their actual numerical age, all students have different agilities and I try my best to meet those needs. Please can parents let me know if their child has any particular triggers or sensitivities that I may be able to take into consideration in classroom management.
4.	If a technological issue causes me to cancel class, I will issue a refund or book you in another class.
5.	I will ensure that each child has a digital copy of the class materials 48 hours before class.
6.	This is an unmuted class. I will only mute your child’s microphone if they are causing a disruption to the class until they resolve their issue.
7.	Have fun learning with me!

My Teaching Style

This class mixes STEM+R+A=STREAM with confidence building and vocabulary. As one of the aims is for children to see STREAM as a fun part of our lives, I introduce topics and then allow them to explore them further by interacting with each other in an open, exciting, and supportive environment.

We will use worksheets, slides, and videos to present information, then perform songs, dancing, spoken word, and games to reinforce the knowledge learned on the worksheet and to highlight talent each child has.

Prior knowledge is not needed, but reading is very helpful.

I will post the class topic 2 weeks before class and I will post material list and worksheets 48 hours before the class.

FAQ

What will your child learn in my classes?

My child-centric (3-18 years old) classes are real-life supplements to the English, German, Science, Social Science, Mathematics, Arts, and Natural Science theory they learn in classes at school. My students receive digital supplementary materials, mini-projects, and homework to ensure class time is for learning new things and for students to gain confidence by building and then sharing a newly acquired skill.

What kind of classes do I teach?

I teach interdisciplinary classes that demonstrate how single school subjects work together in real-life, for example:

Languages - Magic Carpet Circle Time, Afro Book Club, and Cool German(y) Stuff
Social Science – Climate Change Crew, Build Your Own Country, and What’s Good Governance?
Natural Science - Superheroes love STREAM, BIPOC Innovators, and The Passport Posse
Arts: Name that Tune, Spoken Word Corner, and Museums around the World
Mathematics - Block Party, Create The Seven Realms Amusement Park, and Equation Bingo

Leadership - President for a day, The Negotiator, and The Great Debate Off!
Entrepreneurship - Ki(n)dpreneur Camp, Back To The Future, and Baby Shark Tank
Diversity – Masterchef (International), Grand Designs: Earth, and Mini-Global Conferences
Self-development - Gaining Resilience In Time, Royalty for a Day, and Take a Deep Breath

What is my background?

I have taught students from 4-70 years old, in school, community colleges, and universities. For over eight years, I have taught world languages, politics, governance, and economics. I have a Masters in Economics from HTW (Berlin), a Bachelor’s (Honors) from UMASS Boston in Political Science, a concentration in International Relations, and a minor in German, as well as a TESOL certification.

I started to read at four and watched ‘Star Wars’ at six, which I think heavily influence my classes on STREAM based on appropriately aged science (fiction) and fantasy literature. My experience with project management, sustainability, organic agriculture, global supply chains, conference presentations, and consulting gave me the tools to teach entrepreneurship and leadership.

As a Massachusetts born child of immigrants, a woman of color, and a former ex-pat, I have precious lessons to teach and even more to learn about the freedom gained from embracing diversity, equity, inclusivity, and anti-racism.

My experience going to public and private schools in three different countries and speaking 3 languages taught me intercultural competence skills that I impart in classes. This why I teach the online BBC=BIMAALEAPS Bunch Co-op, where Black, Indigenous, Multi-ethnic, African, Arabic, Latinx, European, Asian, and Pacific Schoolkids learn, exchange ideas, share talents, and encourage co-operation between each other.

What inspires me to teach?

My love of children and sharing knowledge! My drive is to support children in their quest to be the best they can be, however they choose to define that. My role-models are the nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and students I have had the honor to learn from and teach.

I am proof of the fact that knowledge is never wasted> From writing ethical natural resource proposals, to teaching BA level ESL, to founding an education and I wish to impart that to my students who will set out in the world, secure in themselves.

What are some things that hardly anyone knows about me?

I have traveled to all of the continents of the world except for South America, Oceania, Antarctica, and the Arctic. I'm also a bookworm, political scientist, sci-fi geek, development and international economist, serial entrepreneur, boardgame fanatic, sushi-monster, hobby vlogger, former dairy farmer, Germanophile, dessert lover, curious traveler, impatient chef, terrific aunty, and terrible Tik-Tok dancer!
