Class Experience

In this course, learners will learn and practice strategies for success on the Reading portion of the SAT. This includes strategies for reading and annotating the test passages in a timely manner, eliminating false answers quickly, and choosing between remaining answers. One of the biggest struggles with this section of the test is getting it done on time; these techniques are built to gain speed and accuracy. Each class will look at a different type of SAT Reading passage, as follows:

Class 1: Introduction to Techniques & Social Studies Passages
Class 2: Fiction Passages
Class 3: Science Passages
Class 4: Multiple Passage Sections & Review

In addition, learners will become familiar with the types of questions that are asked on the test and how to identify them. This helps learners quickly eliminate false answers to save time for the trickier options. This course is collaborative, meaning each learner will have a chance in-class to read, annotate, and tackle questions. All of this will take place in a supportive, friendly environment that treats a wrong answer as just another way to learn. Between classes, learners will be asked to complete two practice passages, which we will review together as a team.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a private tutor, I have worked with learners on the techniques presented in this course for several years. By demystifying the test itself and focusing on strategies rather than knowledge, these tools have helped a majority of my students improve their SAT Reading scores.
