Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
Beginner Level
Teaching students to understand how to confidently state an opinion, but also back their opinion up with research is so important!
This beginners debate club is the perfect way for your learner to work on teamwork and supporting their opinion with strong evidence.

In this ongoing class, using a randomizer tool, students will receive a random age appropriate debate topic(ex: Every home should have a pet). This class will not debate political sides or current events. Students will be randomly selected to either the affirmative or negative side. If the class has 3 or less students, the students will be on one team and debate the teacher!

This is a straight to debate class. We will quickly review some vocabulary and get started with the debate.
This is the structure for each class:
*Collaborative time in monitored breakout rooms with teams
*Presentations from teams
*Collaborative time in breakout rooms with teams
*Rebuttal and summary from each team.

Mrs. Terlau will make sure to delete the topics used, so there will never be a repeat!

Mrs. Terlau has 6 years experience in teaching third grade and was chair of the Social Studies committee for the district. She enjoys helping students work on their persuasive writing skills even when they aren't writing!

I hope to see you in a class soon!
