This ongoing class will meet once a week, with two sessions being offered, Sunday and Wednesday evenings. This class is learner directed, I will provide a selection of read aloud books relating to the theme, books will be picked by the learners. Material will be presented in a read aloud format. Each week will have a theme, the story and "show and tell" for that week will relate to the theme. Learners will improve their active listening skills through hearing a story, discussing the text, and responding to open ended questions. The class will be presented in a fun, lighthearted style. No learner will feel pressured to speak publicly if they are not ready. Each week learners will have the opportunity to participate in a "show and tell" activity that will allow them to build self-confidence and speaking skills by sharing with peers. The give and take of information will be designed to encourage more introverted students. Each week will be an independent storytime so learners can join and participate at any time. While I will offer suggested topics and ideas, learners will help to pick the stories we read from my available library. Week of February 12, 2023- Theme- Dinosaurs! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Miss Kerry. I will be teaching preschool classes and sharing some fun and exciting circle time activities as well as offering story time for young children. I also will be offering reading/ novel based classes for older learners.
I have been working with and teaching children for fifteen plus years. I began my career shortly after graduation from high school with a local day care center. While there, I worked with a toddler and three year old preschool class. After completing my first bachelor's degree, I accepted a position as a multisystemic therapist, with Adelphi Village in Mercer County, PA . In this capacity, I worked with the teen population. After leaving Adelphi, I took a position with the Bair Foundation as a Foster Care Specialist also in Mercer County, PA . This involved children from birth to age eighteen years of age, although my caseload was mainly birth to age ten. I relocated to Wayne County, PA where I worked as a Preschool and PreK teacher I currently guest teach with the local school district where I teach classes for Kindergarten through 12th grade.
My philosophy of education is very simple, I believe that all children are capable of learning! I also believe they learn best when they are having fun and being encouraged. Children need to feel safe and accepted to allow their minds to open and learn new materials.
I try to put this philosophy into action each and every day as I teach my own children at home. I currently have a 7th grade student and a senior in high school. We "learn" while walking in the park and identifying trees, watching rabbits and squirrels in our yard and making cookies in the kitchen, as well as embracing traditional types of study. Learning is a lifestyle. Embrace it with your children!
