US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this lesson, the students will listen to the delightful bestseller story Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen. We will ask questions before, during, and after reading to help comprehend the story. We will also look at how a character's feelings change during a story. Afterward, we will do a fun craft making our own lions with construction paper, glue, scissors, and markers or crayons. The students will be cutting small strips of colored construction paper to make the lion's mane. If there is time, I will share how I can draw a lion with the number 5! Come join us for some ROARING good times!
Learning Goals
Student will ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Students will also describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges, with specific emphasis on how feelings change.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
