Nǐ hǎo! Welcome to Storytime in Mandarin, an interactive and immersive class designed to introduce children to Mandarin Chinese through engaging storytelling. Each session features a mix of classic folktales, cultural stories, and modern children’s tales, all told primarily in Mandarin.

While occasional English support is provided when necessary, the focus is on natural language learning, allowing children to absorb new words and phrases in context—just like learning their first language.

This class is best suited for children with some basic Mandarin exposure who want to expand their vocabulary while exploring Chinese culture, traditions, and festivals through storytelling, songs, and interactive activities.

★★ What Will Be Taught? ★★

Children will experience a variety of engaging stories that bring the Chinese language and culture to life:

→ Classic Chinese folktales like The Legend of the Monkey King (孙悟空) and The Story of Nian (年兽)
→ Festival stories about The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) and Mid-Autumn Festival (嫦娥奔月)
→ Modern children's tales like The Magic Paintbrush (神笔马良) and Little Fish Swims in the Sea (小鱼游大海)

Each story introduces 5-10 new Mandarin vocabulary words, with key phrases and cultural elements woven into the lesson. Learners will strengthen listening comprehension, practice speaking, and gain insight into Chinese culture in an engaging way.

★★ How Is the Class Structured? ★★

Each 30-minute session follows a structured yet playful format to keep children engaged:

→ Welcome and greeting (5 minutes) – Interactive greetings and a warm-up in Mandarin
→ Storytime (15 minutes) – A captivating tale told in Mandarin with gestures, props, and visuals for comprehension
→ Vocabulary highlights (5 minutes) – Reinforcement of new words and key phrases from the story
→ Wrap-up and goodbye (5 minutes) – A fun review activity, plus a goodbye song or phrase in Mandarin

★★ Why Learn Mandarin Through Stories? ★★

Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to learn a language! By hearing Mandarin in context, children absorb words and phrases naturally—making language learning feel effortless and enjoyable.

→ Builds listening comprehension and vocabulary in a natural way
→ Introduces cultural traditions, customs, and values through stories
→ Encourages curiosity and imagination while learning Mandarin
→ Creates an engaging and memorable learning experience

★★ Interactive Elements to Keep Learners Engaged ★★

To make storytime fun and immersive, our teachers use interactive techniques such as:

→ Asking questions – Encouraging kids to guess what happens next or describe characters in Mandarin
→ Role-playing – Acting out parts of the story using simple Mandarin dialogues
→ Movement games – Reinforcing new vocabulary with games like “Simon Says” in Mandarin
→ Drawing activities – Kids can illustrate their favorite scenes and share their creations
→ Songs and rhymes – Singing and reciting rhymes related to the story’s theme

★★ Cultural Elements Included ★★

Each story provides a window into Chinese culture, helping kids connect with traditions while learning the language. Topics include:

→ The Chinese zodiac and its legends
→ The origins of major festivals like Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival
→ Symbolic meanings in Chinese storytelling and folklore

★★ Is This Class Right for My Child? ★★

This class is best suited for children (ages 4-8) who have some prior exposure to Mandarin, such as:

→ Hearing Mandarin at home or in their community
→ Watching Mandarin TV shows, songs, or stories
→ Recognizing or speaking simple Mandarin words and greetings

Because this is an immersion-style class, stories are told primarily in Mandarin. Occasional English support is provided, but children should be comfortable with basic Mandarin greetings and phrases to get the most out of the experience.
