Description
Class Experience
In each session of this class I will read a selected text aloud to the group, pausing throughout for discussion. At the end of the book we will participate in an activity or game to further explore the content. The course will include both fiction and non-fiction texts from a wide variety of genres, authors, and topics. Each week will focus on a different comprehension strategy, though many strategies will be demonstrated across all weeks. My teaching style is energetic and interactive. I use...
Students will build their toolbox of reading comprehension strategies. Strategies to be covered include, but are not limited to, comparing and contrasting, asking questions, setting a purpose for reading, making predictions, inferring, visualizing, and identifying main idea.
A whiteboard and marker will be useful for this class
