As part of my commitment to inspire children to love reading, I would like to invite students to join me, Teacher Melody, for adventures through stories! In this ongoing class, students will listen as I read popular interactive children's stories followed by themed songs, role playing, audiovisual, movement, or art project. One of my favorite childhood activities was storytime. Stories have so much to offer: they develop listening and communication skills, improve concentration and memory, bring experiences alive, create a sense of wonder and help sequence events. These weekly ongoing sessions meet on the same day and time once a week. I will choose picture books with beautiful illustrations from my personal children's library. Selections will include some of my personal favorites such as, Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson. The students and I will go on a fantastic journey with Harold and his purple crayon! In future lessons, we will meet such character's as Corduroy, a little bear who once lived in the toy department of a big store, and the girl who took him home. We will travel to Spain where a little bull named Ferdinand rather sit and smell the flowers than fight in the bullring. We will learn about Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good very bad day he had! Oh the adventures we will have through the magic of storytelling! Each child should come to class with something to draw on and something to draw with for impromptu drawings or class activities. If other supplies are needed for a schedule craft project, I will post a list in the classroom on Mondays. Each class will include a coloring page to be downloaded. My teaching style is interactive, casual, fun, and engaging for the child. Typically I start a class with introductions and rapport building questions leading into the topic of the story for the day. I will read the story, stopping to ask questions to engage the students with the text. After reading the story we will discuss the story allowing the students to express their thoughts and use their imagination. We will complete a story themed activity and/or create an art project. Class with last 40-45 minutes depending on the number of students and abilities. Each class will include one or more of the following: songs, role playing, audiovisual, movement, or easy to create art project. Class will meet every Wednesday at 10:00 am (CST). Students can attend week to week or drop into a class whenever your schedule allows. The class will always be a new experience! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Teacher Melody. I live in beautiful St Louis, Missouri. I graduated from Webster University with a Masters Degree in Human Resources, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University. I am a certified ESL teacher with a TESOL certificate. I have over 25 years experience working with children, and over 5 years experience teaching remote learning classes to children. Learning with me is fun and exciting! I teach English to native speaking children ages 3 - 18 years old, as well as English as a second language to children to improve their English speaking skills. In addition to academic lessons, I offer a variety of lesson topics; lessons about animals, traveling, music, creative writing, holidays, and more! In my classroom we learn while playing fun games and learning new songs together. My classroom is both fun and educational. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, by having new adventures and experiences together. I share my home with my four dogs and three cats. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering at local animal shelter in my community. I can't wait to meet your child in the classroom!
